Don't politicise Kampung Baru land issue: Johari

KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition should stop politicising the issue of Kampung Baru purely to win the support of the residents in the area in the run up to the 14th General Election (GE14).
Titiwangsa caretaker Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said such a move was seen as an attempt to win the hearts of the area developed by the Barisan Nasional (BN).
"Leaders from the opposition come to contest but do not understand (the issue in Kampung Baru) and make all kinds of accusations. Those who come (the opposition) do so only once in five years and straight away want to become heroes and want to 'educate' us.
"I too want to 'educate' them a little. The Kampung Baru land is not squatters' land. If they are squatters' land, it will be easy to develop them. These are titled land with inheritors," he said, here today.
He added that development in Kampung Baru could only be implemented after obtaining the agreement of all the heirs.
Johari was commenting on the allegations by the opposition against him, including the issue of parking lots not being built in the area.
Earlier, he officiated a ceremony to show gratitude for the 2018 Tenaga Nasional Berhad's Baiti Jannati project at the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory level.
At the ceremony, Johari handed over a replica of the house key to Junayer Sukiman, 69, who could occupy the house constructed by the TNB early last month.
Junayer's house was among the 15 houses destroyed in a fire incident at Jalan Raja Muda Musa on Dec 29, last year.
Meanwhile, when approached by reporters, Junayer said the three-room new house was safer and comfortable to live in.
"This house was inherited from my parents, I am most grateful for the good deed from Datuk Johari and TNB. I live here with my wife and a child (single mother) and two grandchildren," he added. — Bernama
