Dr Mahathir receives courtesy call from Singapore DPM

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad received a courtesy call from Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean at Perdana Putra, here today.
Teo, who is also the Coordinating Minister for National Security, arrived at 2.30 pm.
During the half-an-hour meeting, Dr Mahathir and Teo exchanged views on strengthening the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Singapore, as well as regional and global issues.
After the meeting, Dr Mahathir and Teo also witnessed the signing ceremony of a Side Letter relating to the High-Speed Rail (HSR) project between both governments.
The Malaysian government was represented by the Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and the Singaporean government represented by the Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
Teo is on a six-day working visit to Malaysia starting yesterday to Sept 9.
The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) in a statement yesterday said this visit is among the exchanges of high-level introductory visits between Malaysia and Singapore since the formation of a new government in Malaysia post 14th General Election on May 9.
Wisma Putra said Teo's visit will cover the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya; Kota Kinabalu, Sabah as well as Kuching, Sarawak.
During his visit, Teo is also scheduled to meet Dr Wan Azizah.
Teo will also meet Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg; Sarawak Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud; Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Sabah Governor Tun Juhar Mahiruddin. — Bernama
