Election documents of Kota Raja parliamentary constituency disposed

SHAH ALAM: The election documents of the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency for the 14th General Election (GE14) were disposed off today.
Returning officer for the constituency, Shukri Mohamad Hamin told Bernama here today that the Election Commission (EC) granted approval to dispose off the documents which included ballot papers, last Thursday, after no protest petitions were filed.
The ballot papers and various other documents of the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency as well as three state seats under it namely Sungai Kandis, Kota Kemuning and Sentosa were burnt and the ashes were buried at Dewan MBSA Kemuning Utama, Section 32 here.
Present were Selangor EC deputy director Kamarul Azman Ahmad Sabri and seven representatives of the candidates who contested the seats in the GE14.
A total of 60 workers were involved in the disposal process including six firemen from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.
In GE14, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, who represented PKR, won the Kota Raja parliamentary seat. All the three state seats under the constituency were also won by PKR candidates namely, Gunarajah George (Sentosa), Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei (Sungai Kandis) and V Ganabathirau (Kota Kemuning).
However, the Sungai Kandis state seat fell vacant following the death of its incumbent Mat Shuhaimi on July 2 due to lymphoma.
The EC has set Aug 4 for polling of the Sungai Kandis by-election and July 21 for nomination. — Bernama
