NIBONG TEBAL: Depicted as a non-starter of a political party, the People's Alternative Party (PAP) has now staged a coup where it is likely to unveil former DAP assemblyman Tan Beng Huat as its latest member.
Tan, the former Jawi assemblyperson, is expected to be unveiled later today in a press conference by PAP here.
Tan fell out of favour during his tenure from 2008 until 2013 and he was subsequently replaced by Soon Lip Chee.
PAP' s widely quoted spokesperson Rahmad Isahak did not confirm nor deny the speculation that Tan is now expected to relaunch his political career through the platform of PAP.
PAP is largely a splinter party of ex-DAP grassroots leaders who could not tolerate the alleged dynastic policies of the socialist party.
DAP is mostly dominated by founding member Lim Kit Siang and son Lim Guan Eng, the affable Penang Chief Minister, said Rahmad, a PAP vice-president.
And there are also the brothers of Gobind Singh Deo, Jagdeep and Ram, he said, adding that this illustrates a form of nepotism.
Besides Rahmad, there is also the PAP pro tem president Zulkifli Md Noor, a former appointed vice-president of DAP.
Tan is expected to provide a different dimension to PAP as he brings diversity.
Earlier, Rahmad had also declared that PAP intends to contest in no less than 15 state seats in the next general election.
