Executive chairman faces another cheating charge

KUALA LUMPUR: Koperasi Hartanah Malaysia Berhad executive chairman Datuk Jali Sekak faced the Sessions Court again today on a charge of cheating a contractor in connection with a non-existent 1Malaysia Affordable Housing Project, five years ago.
He claimed trial.
Jali, 52, who was also former Koperasi Pembangunan Hartanah Putrajaya Berhad (KPHPB) chairman allegedly persuaded M Nordin Abdul Majid, 50, to hand over RM600,000 to him with an offer to help secure the tender for an affordable housing development contract.
He is accused of committing the offence at Megan Avenue in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng here on Nov 29, 2013, under Section 420 of the Penal Code read with Section 34 of the same Code which carries a maximum 10 years jail and whipping and fine on conviction.
Judge Azman Ahmad set bail at RM50,000 with one surety, and April 24 for the next mention.
The judge also ordered the accused to surrender his international passport to the court pending disposal of the case.
On Feb 21 this year, Jali also claimed trial at four Sessions Court in Petaling Jaya to six counts of cheating six contractors related to the same project involving RM5.36 million, three years ago.
On April 29, 2016, he pleaded not guilty to cheating a contractor of RM900,000 in connection with a 1Malaysia People's Housing Project (PR1MA) purportedly proposed by Koperasi Pembangunan Hartanah Putrajaya Berhad.
Deputy public prosecutor Norashikin Ibrahim appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel Wan Shahrizal Wan Ladin. — Bernama
