Express bus catches fire on North-South Expressway

BATU PAHAT: Thirty-four passengers of a double-decker express bus and its driver, escaped a fiery death when the vehicle caught fire at KM99.9 of the North-South Expressway, here today.
In the 11.10am incident, the bus was travelling from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur before it was believed to have encountered a technical problem.
Yong Peng Fire Station chief Mohd Asroy Mohd Yahaya said two firefighters from Ayer Hitam and four personnel from the Yong Peng fire station were deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call.
He said the fire was successfully controlled within 15 minutes after firefighters arrived at the scene.
"All 32 Indonesian tourists and the bus driver managed to escape and did not suffer any injuries.
"However, the double-decker bus was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire is being investigated," he said.
