PUTRAJAYA: A former MIC vice-president who holds a Tan Sri title, his son and two others held by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission last week over a bribery scandal involving a RM13 million work contract with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) had their remanded order extended by two days today.
The MACC sought the remand order extention early at the magistrate's court here before it was granted by Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman.
The suspects were arrested by the MACC over an alleged fraudulent claim of RM13 million for the supply of 358 geotubes meant for dredging and excavation work involving river restoration projects.
However, only 89 geotubes worth RM4 were supplied to the DID by the Tan Sri's company.
Sources said a detained ex-DID director and the department's current engineers were allegedly in cahoots with the Tan Sri in pulling off the fraud.
The 63-year-old businessman was detained in Johor while the rest were held in Malacca and Seremban.
