Family and friends prepare to bid farewell to marathon pacer Evelyn Ang
PETALING JAYA: Family and friends of marathon pacer Evelyn Ang (pix) have been called to bid farewell to her at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
Some have posted sad goodbye messages, sharing good memories and expressing their grief on Ang's Facebook page.
"... I am sure u fight for your life babe ... it's ok if you need to go. While you are still with us now ... know that you are loved by many of us.
"Once you walk to the starting point to start your new journey in afterlife, we will be here by the sideline waving you goodbye. Have a good race Eve ...
"... May you find your peace. Rest well now Evelyn," read a message posted by Yvonne Brian on Ang's page earlier today.
It is however unclear if Ang's family have decided to have her life support system turned off.
It is learnt that text messages have been sent to runner groups to say their goodbyes and prepare themselves to send Ang off.
She and two other runners were hit by a driver at 4.30am at the 14km mark during the Klang City International Marathon 2017.
Ang had suffered a skull fracture with bleeding in her brain, while the two others — Amiruddin Hamid, 37, and fellow pacer Ahmad Hadafi Jus, 42, — sustained minor injuries.
Ang's husband Dennis Loo had reportedly said last month that she has undergone four surgeries since the accident and is now in stable condition, but is still being closely monitored at the hospital.
He had said that Ang remained unconscious despite being off the respirator and her general condition is now stable.
On Feb 20, Teoh Thiam Lim, 28, pleaded not guilty to a charge of reckless and dangerous driving that resulted in injuries to Ang and the two other participants.
He was charged with driving a Proton Iswara car in a reckless manner that could endanger others at Batu 2, Jalan Kapar, here at about 4.30am on Dec 10 last year.
The charge, under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, provides an imprisonment for up to five years and fine of up to RM15,000.
