KUALA LUMPUR: To spare a police corporal of internal action over an offence he committed, a federal police director allegedly demanded kickbacks of over RM100,000 from the personnel.
On Thursday, the police director who is a Datuk was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after he was summoned for questioning following an investigation that was initiated against him weeks earlier.
Sources said the police director who is in his 50's had apparently learnt of his subordinate's wrongdoings in August last year and reprimanded him.
He is then alleged to have demanded an inducement from the rank-and-file personnel coercing him with serious consequences including an expulsion from the police force.
Over the next 13 months, the police director allegedly received over RM100,000 in several payments from the corporal.
Just three weeks earlier, the police director was transferred to another department also in Bukit Aman.
Sources said MACC investigators will seek a remand order to detain the director at the Putrajaya magistrate's court early on Friday.
