Former convict back to prison for extorting money from mother

MALACCA: A former convict was sentenced to 17 months jail by the Ayer Keroh Magistrate''s Court yesterday for extorting money from his mother.
Magistrate Norina Maludin also sentenced Junaidi Mad Nor, 34, to another two months'' jail for failing to produce his identity card when requested by the authority.
However, she ordered Junaidi to serve both the jail sentences concurrently from the date of his arrest last April 10.
Junaidi, who was released from prison last month after serving time for a drug case, was alleged to have extorted RM100 from his mother, Nokiah Ali, 62, and beat her with a stick when she refused to give the money.
The offence, and also for failing to produce his identity card, were committed at a house in at BT 10½; Jalan Solok Paya Rumput Jaya, Sungai Udang here about 2.30pm last April 9.
The charge for extortion, under Section 384 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 10 years, or with fine, or whipping, or both, if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Azri Zakaria prosecuted, while Junaidi was unrepresented. — Bernama
