Glad to be Najib 'in the making': Lokman

PETALING JAYA: As day one campaigning for the Sungai Kandis by-election kicked off, Umno Supreme Council member and Barisan Nasional's (BN) Sungai Kandis candidate, Datuk Lokman Noor Adam, said he would be elated to be viewed as following in the footsteps of former premier Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
He said he would be glad if voters here likened him to a Najib "in the making".
"The former prime minister was a great leader and if I'm compared to him or if people think I am him in the making, it would be a great blessing to me. I would be humbled," he said.
Lokman said his election strategy was to inform voters of the unfulfilled election promises by Pakatan Harapan (PH) since they won the general election.
He pointed out that PH had made all sort of promises before winning, but only two things have gone down since they won, one being share prices in the Bursa Malaysia and another being our currency.
He claimed there was nothing much he had to adjust from the previous BN's election strategy used in GE14 to win the by-election.
Lokman said BN's strategy of meeting and greeting the people, as well as holding small ceramah among neighbourhood residents was good enough for him to win the seat. He added that PH won by telling all sorts of things about Najib but until today, there is nothing to prove that Najib had done anything wrong.
Lokman said he would be meeting PAS leaders to ask them to help BN campaign in the by-election.
He added that he hoped for a positive outcome as PAS support is important to strengthen the voice of Muslims and Malays.
Lokman is facing PKR's Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and independent candidate K. Murthy in a three-cornered fight for Sungai Kandis.
The seat fell vacant following the death of assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei from PKR on July 2 after a battle with lymphatic cancer.
The Sungai Kandis constituency has 51,230 registered voters, comprising 51,217 ordinary voters and 13 overseas voters and polling is set on Aug 4.
