Grandfather charged over sexual assault on 7-year-old granddaughter

BUTTERWORTH: A 59-year-old grandfather was charged at the Sessions Court here today on two counts of committing physical sexual assault, including oral sex, on his granddaughter.
The accused claimed trial in front of judge Noor Aini Yusof.
Based on the first charge sheet, the accused allegedly physical sexual assaulted the seven-year and one-month-old granddaughter by grabbing her hand to hold his genitalia at a house in Pekan Baru, Teluk Air Tawar here between October and November last year.
He is being tried under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Child Act (Soaca) 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child.
If found guilty, the accused can be sentenced up to a 20-year jail term and whipping.
For the second charge, the accused allegedly forced his granddaughter to perform oral sex on him at the same premises here.
For this, he is being tried under Section 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Child Act (Soaca) 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child. He faces up to a 20-year jail term and whipping.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Roslina Idris did not propose bail. However, the accused, who is not represented by a lawyer, appealed for bail as the family members, who are attending the court, wanted to bail him.
Noor Aini fixed bail of RM15,000 with a surety and the accused is not allowed to contact or approach the victim. He has to report himself to the nearest police station every 15th monthly until the case ends.
Noor Aini also fixed Feb 22 for mention.
