ATHENS: A prosecution lawyer in a trial against the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party in Greece, and another woman, were injured in a "savage attack" by suspected supporters of the group on Wednesday, according to judicial sources.
The lawyer, Evgenia Kouniaki, and the other woman, were punched by the group as they exited a trolley bus not far from the court in Athens where the trial is taking place, added the source.
"Ms Kouniaki was punched in the face as she left the trolley bus. She bled, it was a savage attack," said Thanassis Kampayannis, another lawyer in the trial, adding that around 20 people took part in the assault with police stationed nearby.
Some two dozen suspected members of Golden Dawn were arrested, according to Kampayannis, but it not clear whether Kouniaki was personally targeted in the attack.
A total of 70 Golden Dawn lawmakers and party officials are on trial on a wide range of charges, including membership of a criminal organisation linked to the fatal stabbing of an anti-fascist rapper in 2013, and several other charges.
