Guan Eng: Affordable housing project to be completed by 2020

GEORGE TOWN: An affordable green housing project located at Sandiland Foreshore is expected to be completed by 2020.
Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng said in his speech today, the project will be developed by Tanjung Villa Development Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Tah Wah Group and will greatly benefit residents in the state.
Lim said the developer had plans to develop affordable housing and also low to low-medium-cost homes at the site.
"There are two parcels of land in this 1.71ha project. Parcel A and Parcel B.
"For Parcel A, a total of 482 unit of affordable homes will be built. There will be 402 units with a built up area of 900 square feet (sqft), priced at RM300,000 each and 80 units, with a built up area of 800 sqft, priced at RM200,000.
"For Parcel B, the developer will build a block with a combination of low-cost and low-medium-cost units. The plan is to have 321 units of low-medium-cost homes with a built up area of 700 sqft, priced at RM72,500 for each unit.
"This also includes the relocation of the existing squatters here," he said when officiating the groundbreaking ceremony at the site today.
Also present were the state Housing exco Jagdeep Singh Deo, the state Local Government, Traffic and Flood Mitigation exco Chow Know Yeow, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Meng, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Lau Keng Ee and Tanjung Villa Sdn Bhd director Datuk Seri Hong Yeam Wah.
Lim said the state government had also approved the Request For Proposal (RFP) by Tanjung Villa Development Sdn Bhd with a total tender amount of RM36 million for the land cost.
He said the developer would build three temples to relocate the existing two temples at the site and also improve the road and landscape.
Lim said the developer also will consign (serahan) 150 units of low-medium-cost units with car parks to the state government.
"I am glad that Tanjung Villa Development Sdn Bhd is committed to building better homes to improve the lifestyle of Penangites.
"They have also given compensation to the squatters, who were previously staying at the site, paid rental for temporary housing and also offered relocation for them," he said.
