Guan Eng welcomes possibility of Penang MCA chairman contesting at Air Putih constituency

JAWI: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) has welcomed the possibility of Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng contesting at his Air Putih constituency.
Describing it as a "King on King" battle, Lim said Malaysia practised democarcy and anyone could contest where they wanted.
"He (Tan) wants to come to Air Putih to fight with me, I accept his challenge," he said in his speech at the Penang DAP Hari Raya open house here today.
Reports in a vernacular paper had been circulating, that Tan was mulling over contesting the Air Putih seat where Lim is the incumbent.
Lim who is also the DAP secretary general had won the seat in the 2008 General Elections and successfully defended the seat in 2013.
Lim also challenged Penang Umno chairman Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman to contest the Nibong Tebal parliamentary seat held by Penang PKR chairman Datuk Othman Mansor.
The two term state government head also defended the performance of his administration.
He said his government wanted to bring about balanced development between Penang island and the mainland.
He said some 77% of RM3.1billion allocated for development over the years was spent in Seberang Perai.
"We want balanced development," he added.
National laureate Datuk Abdul Samad Mohamed Said meanwhile expressed his hope the people could differentiate between "kebenaran" (truth) and "kepalsuan" (falsehood).
Other party leaders who spoke included Penang Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman and state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow who urged members to prepare for the 14th General Elections.
