IMU awarded self-accreditation status

INTERNATIONAL Medical University (IMU) now holds "self-accreditation status" following the announcement made by Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) recently. IMU is one of the eight universities that received the coveted award. The self-accreditation status entitles a higher education provider (HEP) to accredit its programmes except for programmes that require accreditation and recognition of the relevant professional body.
IMU vice-chancellor Prof Abdul Aziz Baba said: "Receiving the self-accreditation status from MQA, under the purview of Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is an honour; it is an indicative autonomy given by the ministry.
"Autonomy and trust come in hand in hand. Hence, IMU pledges continual commitment to uphold the highest standards of intellectual, educational and research productivity in the years to come."
MQA awards the status to public universities and private campus branches based on the respective institution's solid and reliable internal quality assurance system. IMU was invited by MOHE, in March 2014, to participate in the self-accreditation status, as the university consistently maintains a reputable quality assurance system based on the standard set by MQA.
Moving forward, the self-accreditation status allows the IMU's senate to accredit its non-professional programmes namely health sciences including Chinese Medicine and Chiropractic programmes and post-graduate studies on the condition that the assessment is carried out based on criteria set by MQA.
