Integrity and Standard Compliance Dept needs to get closer to public: Musa Hassan

KUALA LUMPUR: The Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) needs to foster a closer relationship with the public to allow it to receive complaints on police misconduct, said former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan (pix).
He said JIPS should share its contact details with the public to facilitate the channelling of information.
"When I was the IGP, I instructed the police to give their phone number to the public so that they could contact us if there were policemen who involved in corruption or abuse of power.
"When we get the information, we will investigate and take immediate action," he said in an interview with Bernama Radio at Wisma Bernama here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Musa said parental guidance was important in shaping the future of children, especially when they grew up to become policemen.
Musa said the police force would indeed train and produce policemen with integrity and trust but childhood education plays an important role in producing a more disciplined, responsible and trustworthy police personnel.
"When parents do not educate their children well, they will grow up to be irresponsible and always breaking the law.
"Spoiling their children with luxury items will encourage them to take easy steps (by taking bribes) to fulfill their wishes when they become adults," he said. — Bernama
