IPOH: Police issued 46 summonses for various offences in an Integrated Commercial Vehicle Operation here yesterday.
Perak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement deputy chief DSP Kamarulzaman Jusoh said the operation conducted from 3pm to 10pm around Ipoh was also participated by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
He said the operation involving six officers and 35 personnel from the three agencies was held following complaints from the people on fatalities linked to heavy vehicles.
Kamarulzaman said among the offences found during the operation included driving without a licence and using false permit, worn out tyres and expired road tax as well as overloading.
"Apart from that, AADK also detained three drivers aged between 25 and 29 after they were screened positive for ganja and syabu," he told reporters at the operation location last night.
According to Kamarulzaman, the three drivers would be investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants Act (Treatment and Rehabilitation) 1983.
He said police would be conducting similar operations from time to time and urged the people to share their information with them.
"We found that operators had been able to get wind of our operations and this time we changed our time and method according to the situation," he added. — Bernama
