Istana turns lively as supporters, cabbies show up in support of Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: The mood in front of Gate 2 of the Istana Negara, where Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is meeting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, turned lively after some 150 taxi drivers arrived to show their support for the Pakatan Harapan de facto leader.
The taxis, carrying flags bearing the PKR logo on it, honked as they made their way to the entrance of the Istana Negara, before parking along the side of the road.
Suara Harapan Pemandu Teksi Se-Malaysia chairman Zaidi Maaini, who led the convoy, said they had come to voice their support for Anwar, whom they claimed had championed the plights of taxi drivers in the parliament when he was an MP previously.
He added that he hoped the new Pakatan Harapan government would review the e-hailing services in the country, which were recognised by the previous Barisan Nasional government.
"All this while under BN we have been suppressed. I hope PH will review this e-hailing services now that they are in power," he told reporters.
At least another 150 PKR supporters also made their way to the palace in support of Anwar, carrying banners and placards of the PKR de facto leader.
Shouts of 'Reformasi' and 'Lawan Tetap Lawan' could be heard, as they waited for Anwar to leave the palace.
About 50 police personnel are also present on site to ensure safety and security at the location. — Bernama
