TUMPAT: The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Kelantan has been urged to expedite its inspection of Islamic religious education institution, especially tahfiz centres, in the state, to ensure the premises are safe.
Kelantan Federal Action Committee (MTPNK) chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (pix) said this was to avoid a similar incident that befell the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz residential centre at Jalan Keramat Ujung, in Kuala Lumpur last Sept 14.
"What happened at Jalan Keramat Ujung is a very sad incident. It should not happen again and what should be done is to comply with the stipulated rules and regulations," he said when met by reporters after a "Ziarah Kasih" programme in the Kelaboran and Pengkalan Kubor state constituencies last night.
A fire broke out at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz residential centre last Sept 14, killing 21 students and two wardens. — Bernama
