Job fair for people with disabilities next month: Rohani

IPOH: The northern zone Job Fair for People with Disabilities which will be held next month is the best platform to raise public awareness about the right of the disabled to work, thereby contributing to national development, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.
She said the programme can also collect profile information of job seekers with disabilities nationwide to match suitable jobs for them.
"The effort is also expected to open up more job opportunities for the disabled and will serve as a bridge between employers and those with disabilities," she said when opening the pre-launch of the northern zone 2017 Job Fair for People with Disabilities here today.
The one-day Fair which will be participated by over 20 employers comprising companies and supermarkets will be held at the Mydin Mall, Meru here on May 13.
Rohani said the ministry is encouraging the involvement of the corporate sector or any party to hold a programme for the development and empowerment of people with disabilities together with agencies under the ministry such as the Social Welfare Department.
According to her, until March 31, there were 420,201 people with disabilities registered with the welfare department and that Selangor recorded the highest number, at 65,612 people. — Bernama
