KOTA ISKANDAR: An opposition state assemblyman has called on the state government to limit property transactions involving low cost homes.
Chua Wee Beng (DAP - Bentayan) said the state government should come up with a policy to ensure unscrupulous parties do not abuse the allocation which is meant for the lower income bracket.
He told the state assembly today that some quarters have used low cost homes as an investment tool for higher gains.
Citing an example, he said a low cost home in Skudai which was originally priced at RM42,000 was listed for sale on a property portal for RM190,000.

“We need a new policy to restrict transactions involving low cost homes and avoid such black market deals," he said.
Earlier, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the state government will acquire 229 acres of lands, with an estimated cost of RM54 million for the Johor affordable homes scheme.
The 13 land-lots in various districts will be developed for houses ranging from RM150,000 to RM300,000.
