AYER HITAM: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin has launched an assault on Pakatan Harapan’s DAP just two days before polling day, describing the party as a “slander factory”.
Speaking at an event here, Mohamed Khaled said DAP had to resort to such tactics as it could not find ways to attack the government due to the good governance of the federal coalition.
He also told voters to be wary of the lies and propaganda coming from the party, which was expected to be more intense during the final hours of the campaigning period.
“They could not find a way to bring down the government other than (disseminating) lies and slanderous propaganda,” he said.
“They will create lies, fake news and others. Make sure that we do not fall for such lies that are made by the party and its candidates,” he said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Johor affordable housing project in Yong Peng here.
The event was also attended by Barisan Nasional’s Ayer Hitam candidate Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, who is also the caretaker Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Mohamed Khaled said this in response to news reports of a confession made by a DAP member who alleged that the party would be distributing thousands of videos and pamphlets with slanderous contents against caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Amran Ahmad, an assistant producer to DAP's official online television channel UbahTV, was quoted as saying by New Straits Times Online on May 5 that the "malicious" propaganda materials would be disseminated in stages until polling day.
Mohamed Khaled in his speech also called on voters in Ayer Hitam constituency not to elect nomad and transit candidate, in reference to Wee’s opponent Liew Chin Tong.
He added that voters in the area were fortunate as they had a federal minister to represent their voices in the Dewan Rakyat.
“The one who contested against Wee. Where was he before? In Kluang. Before Kluang? He was in Bukit Bendera (Penang).
“He will not be staying in a single place. Ayer Hitam is only a path to him. We cannot allow the people of Ayer Hitam to be used in that way,” he said.
“We must stop those that are contesting merely to get a seat. We must defeat any nomad and transit candidates,” he added.
