KUALA LUMPUR: From 1am to 2 am every Wednesday throughout the holy month of Ramadan, some 40 student-volunteers from different colleges and universities will hand out 370 packs of pre-dawn meals to the city's homeless and underprivileged denizens as the main activity for their ‘Jom Sahur’ campaign.
The charitable campaign is being jointly organised by Institut Onn Ja'afar (IOJ) and Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK), with food provided by Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside Hotel.
IOJ chief executive officer Charles Mohan said the campaign, which is the second in its series, would take place simultaneously in front of YCK's KL Krash Pad in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and at the Federal Territories Ministry's Homeless Transit Centre near the Pahang Roundabout.
The first food distribution session for this year’s ‘Jom Sahur’ campaign will be held on May 31 and will be hosted by students from KDU University College.
Meanwhile, Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside Hotel General Manager Roberts Ejubs said the community programme was an effort to create a better world especially in the hospitality industry.
"While we, those who have made it in the world look forward for the future, we should not forget the less fortunate who without our help struggle in their respective lives," he said in a statement.
The Jom Sahur campaign is an offshoot of IOJ's 'Jom Bekpes' campaign which began in February last year.
It was the brainchild of IOJ patron, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, who is also Defence Minister dan Minister of Special Functions. — Bernama
