LANGKAWI: The Kedah state government has taken several technical measures to ensure sufficient water supply in Langkawi to cope with the increase in development activity on the island in the next two years.
State Science, Innovation and Technology, Public Works, Water Supply, Water Resources and Energy Committee chairman Zamri Yusof said the increase was significant since Pakatan Harapan took over the state and federal governments.
"We expect the development to be more significant. Investors have returned to Langkawi and we need to be ready for at least two to four years time," he said when met at the breaking-of-fast organised by Taliworks (Langkawi) Sdn Bhd here last night.
Zamri said even though the previous government had announced an RM600 million water supply project for Langkawi, the Pakatan Harapan government would review it first to ensure that it would provide optimum benefits to the island.
Meanwhile, he said the Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd (SADA), a state-owned water supply company, had expected an increase in water use by more than threefold during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. — Bernama
