ALOR STAR: Kedah today sent 200 volunteers on a post-flood aid mission to Penang, said Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
He said the day-long operation would focus on distribution of aid and cleaning work.
"The mission will concentrate on four parliamentary constituencies, namely Permatang Pauh, Tasek Gelugor, Kepala Batas and Batu Kawan.
"Although Penang is administered by the opposition, the state government is providing the assistance on a humanitarian basis," he said to reporters after sending off the mission at Wisma Darul Aman here.
The volunteers are from Yayasan Jariah Malaysia, Kedah 4B Youth Movement, Kedah UMNO Youth, 1Malaysia Volunteer Brigade and E-Idaman Sdn Bhd, the solid waste management company.
The post-flood mission is led by Jeneri state assemblyman Mahadzir Abdul Hamid who told reporters that the aid would help ease the burden of the flood-affected residents. — Bernama
