Kit Siang banking on 6 'minor tsunamis' for Pakatan victory

ALOR STAR: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has played down the much touted analogy of a political "Malay Tsunami" movement to invoke sweeping changes in the 14th general election as campaigning entered its sixth day here.
Lim has now cast aside the notion of a "Malay Tsunami", preferring instead to present a need for six minor (political) tsunamis among the electorate to galvanise the Opposition upstart of Pakatan Harapan to victory.
The six segments of voters were - women, the young, bumiputra, non-bumiputra, Sabahans and Sarawakians.
Speaking at a rally here on Wednesday evening, Lim said that with the six groups of voters, Pakatan can ride on its "waves" to triumph over Barisan Nasional (BN) .
Kedah was singled out by political pundits as one of the states to watch because it was the home state of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed, who now leads Pakatan, and over a perceived weakness of the state BN leadership.
Lim also mentioned the need for voters to realise that they now hold the power to determine who can be the prime minister of the country.
Usually, the prime minister's post is solely determined in Parliament and by the party who has the most dominant number of seats in the August House.
But Lim said that it will all change if Pakatan can win the election.
It is because the Opposition has pre-determined its list of prime ministers, starting with Mahathir followed by the imprisoned Opposition icon Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Lim told a boisterous crowd here.
Also, the country's first woman deputy prime minister has been nominated through PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Lim also urged politicians to regain their moral compass by focusing on issues which matter to the people instead of trivialising the election and dipping back into history which was full of mistakes and missteps.
"We need to look forward as a nation, and as a people."
Living in Malaysia, nobody should be anti-Malay, or anti-Chinese or Indian, or of the minorities as the people have no choice but to tolerate and mutually respect each other in a diverse country, said Lim.
Hence, he hoped that the country can move away from race and religious-centric politics, and focus on issues which are of importance to the people.
He urged the people to make their voices heard in this election.
Lim also urged caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to clarify about the scandal-tainted sovereign investment fund of 1MDB, saying the company's chief executive officer Datuk Arul Kanda Kumar, was just an officer.
"We want the top decision maker to explain; go on a nationwide roadshow to clarify things instead of depending on Arul Kanda to do that job."
Lim later rushed to Penang where he graced two mammoth Pakatan ceramahs in Juru on the mainland and Air Itam on the island.
