KSN's mother dies of old age in Kluang yesterday

    KLUANG: The mother of the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa who died of old age yesterday, was laid to rest at the Kampung Melayu Muslim Cemetery, near here this morning.
    The late Mariamah Ali, 83, was buried after the body was cleansed and funeral prayers performed at the Surau Taman Emas participated by about 50 close family members and friends.
    Ali said his mother had suffered a stroke about 20 years ago which led her to fall into a coma but subsequently gained almost full recovery.
    "She did not have any other illness, but two or three days ago she became slightly weaker, she could not sit often nor eat on her own ... up to yesterday, when she could not do anything. She only asked for water, and my younger brother had time to give her 'zam zam' water before she breathed her last at 5.30pm," he told reporters after the burial.
    Mariamah, who is survived by eight children, died at her son's house in Jalan Sahabat 5, Taman Emas here.
    She was surrounded by several of her children while Ali, who is her second son, was then working in Putrajaya and returned to Kluang last night after receiving news on his mother. — Bernama
