Lembah Tempurung set for development as agro-tourism site

GOPENG: The Perak government is to turn Lembah Tempurung here into a new agro-tourism development area soon, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said today.
He said Lembah Tempurung, which had various attractions such as white water rafting and Kampung Karyawan Malim, a Malay village setting for art activists, had great potential to draw local and foreign tourists.
The valley was excellent in terms of the natural environment and wildlife, comparable to the other national parks in the country, he said to reporters after launching the Perak Arts Icon Programme in Kampung Karyawan Malim in conjunction with the Mentri Besar's Retreat for the Kampar and Batang Padang districts, here.
"For example, the white water rafting here boasts the third level of difficulty and poses a real challenge for extreme sports enthusiasts.
"Furthermore, Kampung Karyawan Malim serves as a centre for art activists to savour the beauty and environment of a Malay village setting, which itself is a tourist draw," he said.
Earlier, Zambry toured Kampung Jahang here and handed out contributions from Yayasan Bina Upaya to several selected villagers and engaged in whitewater rafting at Sungai Jahang, Ulu Geruntum, here.
Meanwhile, he dismissed as rubbish a statement by Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham questioning the action of Zambry and state executive councillors who went about removing refuse in a part of Malim Nawar near Kampar yesterday.
He said he had expected the opposition to make an issue of his going down to the ground with state executive councillors to conduct a cleanliness programme every time.
"As far as I am concerned, let us continue with our agenda to make Perak a clean state," he said.
At the refuse removal programme yesterday, Zambry, attired in the uniform and hat of Kampar District Council general employees, drove a refuse truck and collected refuse in a part of Malim Nawar with the help of about 100 employees of the local council. — Bernama
