IPOH: Low salaries is among the reasons why Malaysians are picky about jobs, said Human Resource Minister M.Kulasegaran.
He said issues on salaries for Malaysians must be addressed.
"Local workers do not want to take up a job if the pay is very low. You cannot ask Malaysians to compare salaries with foreigners working here.
"You cannot compare an apple with an orange, it's different," he said after visiting the Mekprasit Buddhist Temple in conjunction with the Wesak Day Celebration here today.
He was commenting on his ministry's move to tackle the problem of a lack of local workers in several sectors of employment in the country which was causing dependency on foreign workers.
Last Thursday, Kulasegaran said the government would review foreign worker agreements with all source countries involved in order to reduce dependency on them.
Kulasegaran, a first time minister, was commenting on the Malaysia-Bangladesh agreement in 2016 aimed at receiving 1.5 million workers.
Meanwhile, Kulasegaran said the ministry would also review the role of "middleman" who bring in foreign workers to the country as it also involves a high cost to the country. — Bernama
