MACC raid properties linked to Baling MP

PUTRAJAYA: Baling MP and Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim who was cleared by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the controversial Penang undersea tunnel project probe two months ago has come under the radar of the commission for alleged corruption and power abuse.
On Tuesday, five premises linked to him including his houses in Subang Jaya and Kedah were raided.
The MACC also made seizures comprising large amounts of cash in both local and foreign currency, luxury items and documents during the raids.
Sources said the MACC officers also raided the Umno supreme council member's offices in Baling, Kedah and Wisma HLA, Kuala Lumpur.
No arrests were made and it is believed that investigations are believed to be over the award of an undisclosed number of government contracts.
In March, Azeez vehemently denied allegations and rumours that he had allegedly received RM3 million from Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd, the company undertaking the feasibility study on the undersea tunnel project.
Azeez who lodged a report over allegations claimed that he was slandered by certain parties.
The contractor had sent him a letter of demand for the return of the payment but later withdrew the letter and issued an apology.
The MACC said that the politician's name was never on the commission's list of individuals relevant to the case or considered to be summoned for questioning
