KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's family wealth.
Its president, Tan Sri Dr K. Kenneth Eswaran said the time had come for him (Tun M) to come clean and explain to the 'rakyat' on the source of his wealth.
"Appropriate action must be taken if there is any misappropriation," he said in a statement issued here today.
Eswaran was responding to Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak's comment on Dr Mahathir's denial that he did not have RM1 billion with him as reported in the media (New Straits Times dated Oct 8).
Dr Mahathir's statement was released on Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Facebook page Friday, in which he denied paying RM1 billion to DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang to become chairman of Pakatan Harapan. — Bernama
