Malaysia to host 9th World Urban Forum

    PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia will host the 9th World Urban Forum (WUF9), a global gathering for urbanites, in February 2018.
    The six-day forum, which is expected to commence on Feb 7 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) was soft-launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak at the Prime Minister's Office, today.
    Also present during the soft launch was Urban Wellbeing Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar, Finance Minister I Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor among other dignitaries.
    The WUF9 to be held at the nation's capital will be the inaugural platform for countries to discuss and debate the implementation and scale of the New Urban Agenda (NUA).
    The NUA was introduced and agreed among UN member nations during the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) held in Quito, Ecuador on Oct 20, last year.
    The forum, organised biennially by UN-Habitat is expected to be attended by over 25,000 participants from around the world.
    Participation in the forum is free and open to the public as well as stake holders in township development.
    Registration for the public is expected to begin from July onwards.
    Participants in the forum will benefit and learn the best practices in developing towns and cities in line with the NUA's vision by 2036.
