Manager and family nabbed by MACC for corruption involving RM5.4m

PUTRAJAYA: A business development manager of a subsidiary company of state-owned Terengganu Incorporated was arrested together with six of his family members and proxies by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) allegedly over corruption involving RM5.4 million.
The 59-year-old manager is suspected to have abused his powers by awarding service and supplies contracts to companies owned by his wife, children, daughter-in-law and proxies between 2010 and 2017.
"He awarded contracts and projects to a company that where his 52-year-old wife was a director and his two children aged 31 and 34 were shareholders. He also awarded projects to companies owned by his 34-year-old daughter-in-law and two of his proxies who are both aged 40," sources said.
Sources also said the apart from supplies, the contracts given to the companies also involved courses and training.
It is learnt that investigators discovered that some contracts were not fulfilled by the companies yet requisition for payments were made to the state government.
The suspects were nabbed in simultaneous raids in Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur in a special operation at 9am today.
MACC senior director of investigations Datuk Simi Abd Ghani (pix) who confirmed the arrests when contacted.
He said the team assigned to probe the case had gone to several locations in Terengganu including the manager's house in Kemaman to seize documents and evidence relevant to the case.
"We expect to seek a remand order against them tomorrow (Thurs) to assist in the investigations." he said.
