MBJB cracks down on foreign traders

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) have launched a crackdown on foreign traders in wet markets and wholesale markets here.
MBJB mayor Amran A. Rahman said in the last two weeks, MBJB's enforcement unit had nabbed eight foreign hawkers at a wet market here and 10 foreign traders who were selling their wares at shoplots in the city.
Amran, who had earlier witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of 11 councilors at the MBJB building here, said some of the foreigners had rented the stalls from the locals here.
Commenting on the issue of MBJB contractors hiring foreigners, he said if the workers have valid documents as required by the authorities, there is no issue.
He said another 13 councilors would be sworn-in this month.
The 15 local councils in the state have 165 councilors who are expected to commence their duties in July.
MBJB is the first council to hold the swearing-in ceremony.
