MBPJ to terminate services of concessionaire Godell Parking

PETALING JAYA: Mayor Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain announced that the city council will terminate the services of current parking concessionaire Godell Parking Sdn Bhd with immediate effect.
The decision was made following a special discussion between the mayor with all the council members and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) lawyers.
"Our lawyers will now be submitting a letter to them on the termination and it will come into effect 15 days after they (Godell) have received the letter.
"The termination was done due to several reasons, among them failure to make monthly rental payments to the council, failure to maintain the parking meter machines in good condition as well as failure to conduct any enforcement on the parking bays," Mohd Azizi told reporters after the council's full board meeting yesterday.
It was previously reported that there were over 700 parking machines in the city to cater to about 21,000 public parking bays, but more than half of them are faulty.
Mohd Azizi said motorists who were issued summonses by Godell's enforcement personnel or MBPJ's enforcement officers in places with faulty machines, can get a waiver at the MBPJ headquarters.
He also revealed that the council would not be appointing a new parking concessionaire as they are looking at taking back the city's parking management once the whole termination process is over.
