PUTRAJAYA: All schools in the country must have sufficient teachers before the Education Ministry is able to allocate two teachers to teach one class.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon said the suggestion by the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) was a good idea, but the ministry needs more manpower to implement it.
"Our ratio is now 1.5 teachers to one classroom, and we have to take into account all schools in Malaysia including schools that do not have enough students.
"This is a good suggestion but we would need more teachers to carry this out efficiently. And that would require a bigger budget," he told the media today.
NUTP had said that the approach of having two teachers to a classroom would allow teachers to identify students that need further guidance.
Chong was speaking to reporters at LimKokWing University's English proficiency programme awards for hearing impaired students from Zhengzhou Institute of Technology at its Cyberjaya campus here.
Today, fifteen students from Zhengzhou Institute of Technology from China received Certificates of Achievement after successfully completing an intensive 6-month course in English proficiency.
In his speech, Chong commended the university for creatively amending their teaching methods to suit the needs of those who need to be taught differently.
LimKokWing provides the opportunity for the hearing impaired to gain diplomas and degrees in professional programmes and currently has 150 hearing impaired students at its Cyberjaya campus.
