KUALA TERENGGANU: The home ministry seized 67 printed materials involving wrong Quranic text worth RM20,000 from 11 premises in the Kuala Terengganu, Marang, and Kuala Nerus areas here today.
The ministry's Quran Publication and Text Control Division principal assistant secretary, Shamsinar Mohd Jaafar said the seizure was the result of joint operations between the Terengganu Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs Department and the Royal Malaysia Police.
The operations were conducted after traders were found to have ignored three warnings which were earlier issued by the authorities.
Shamsinar said the ministry seized the printed materials as it might confuse Muslims.
Moreover, she added, the traders had placed the framed Quranic verses in inappropriate places such as on the floor, and were also lumped together with clothes.
The materials were seized under Section 14 of the Printing of Quran Text Act 1986. — Bernama
