PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's most expensive mooncake will set you back RM3,888. It is 4cm tall and 17.5cm in diameter, making it four times the size of a regular mooncake.
Called zhen yue, it is produced in Malaysia by Liangxian Food Co, a company specialising in mooncakes. But what makes it so expensive?
Liangxian Food Co Managing Dr Liang Guohui said he consulted Chinese medicine practitioners to understand the nutritional value of all the raw ingredients.
Its filling is made of premium ingredients such as cordyceps, ginseng, saffron, royal jelly, molasses, lotus seed, jujube, longan and other Chinese herbs.
On top of that, it even contains 24K edible gold.
The crust is made of highly nutritious and expensive bird's nest to retain all the essence and nutritional values of the fillings, Liang said.
It has earned a place in the Malaysian Book of Records as the country's most expensive mooncake
Customers have to order it two days in advance. It has to be consumed within three days since it has no preservatives.
