THE MALAYSIAN Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will be presenting a concert of Youthful Musical Adventures tomorrow at 8.30pm, and Sunday at 3pm at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, KLCC.
The programme includes a series of piano pieces from French composer Claude Debussy called The Children Corner, written between 1906 and 1908 for his young daughter, and later orchestrated for a 1910 premiere in New York.
Also on the list are Richard Strauss’ brilliant Don Juan, followed by Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks, which is based on a prankster character from 14th-century tales.
Malaysian pianist Melody Quah (pix), who has performed with the Ku-Ring-Gai Symphony and Central Coast Symphony Orchestra (Australia), will also be featured in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 in C major.
All concerts will be led by Jun Markl, renowned for his refined explorations of the French impressionists.
Markl has conducted the world’s leading orchestras including Cleveland Orchestras, Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, and the Czech, Munich and Oslo Philharmonics.
