Najib: Opposition consumed by internal conflict

PETALING JAYA: The Opposition's internal conflict will cause disruption and weaken the economy should they take over the federal government, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
"Political stability plays a pivotal role in the development of a country, and among the factors that determine political stability is the cooperation between political parties in the ruling coalition.
"Looking at the history of the opposition, they cannot last long," Najib said in a blog post today.
Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional Chairman, said the current Selangor state government was unstable.
He said the position of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and the state government will be affected should PAS or the DAP withdraw from the administration.
"Imagine if this happened at the federal level. To ensure the economy grows and to protect public welfare, a government must be led by a solid and experienced coalition of parties with a common direction," Najib said.
PAS has decided to cut its ties with PKR at the recently concluded 63rd Muktamar held in Kedah.
Although the decision ultimately lies with the Islamist party's syura council, there are rumours of a snap election in Selangor and the defection of several state assemblymen.
Najib pointed out that the Opposition coalition have a bad record in being steadfast together, as they have formed a lot of alliances since 1986.
"Since 1986, the Opposition has formed nine alliances such as the Barisan Alternatif which was formed in 1998 but was dissolved in 2008.
"Then there was Pakatan Rakyat which only lasted from 2008 to 2015. In the end, these alliances were dissolved after a few years.
"And the funny thing is, there is a new small party that recently joined the Opposition and it now wants to change the pact's Pakatan Harapan name. What alliance will surface next?" Najib said.
