KUALA LUMPUR: The explosion at the central food processing centre at Subang Industrial Estate owned by OldTown Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary, Emperor's Kitchen Sdn Bhd (EK), has not impacted its coffee and beverage manufacturing and warehousing facilities.
The cafe chain operator said the food processing operation in EK's processing plant had temporarily ceased and was expected to re-commence via auxiliary means in the shortest time possible in order to mitigate any supply disruption to the food and beverage chain outlets.
"At this juncture, the Board is unable to finalise the financial impact on EK, but believes that the damages are adequately insured pending the insurance company's assessment," Oldtown said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.
The explosion started at about 8 am and has only affected areas involving EK's production floor.
The adjacent areas occupied by other operating units and administration office are not affected.
As a result of the explosion, OldTown said several employees were injured and their condition in the hospital was being closely monitored by the management.
"The company and the management are committed to providing full support and assistance to the injured employees," said OldTown, citing the Fire and Rescue and Police Departments, as well as, the management were still conducting investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
An appropriate announcement would be made in due course once EK's normal operations resumed and losses were ascertained, it added. — Bernama
