OPS Niaga 2 monitors entreprises run by foreigners: Hamzah

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) has implemented a joint exercise in efforts to monitor business premises run by foreigners through Ops Niaga 2.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the integrated operations, that were conducted in collaboration with the Immigration Department, Royal Malaysia Police and Kuala Lumpur City Hall, were a follow-up to the Ops Niaga implemented last year.
"Through the ops, we not only check the business premises in the locations we focus on, but also see if these businesses are registered or not.
"If the premises are registered, we also check if the workers in the business premises have a valid working permit or otherwise," he said during the question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat session today.
He was replying to a supplementary question from Izani Husin (PAS-Pengkalan Chepa) on actions being taken to overcome the influx of foreigners owning a network of enterprises in the country.
Hamzah said if the foreigners involved had their businesses legally registered, they were allowed to run their ventures.
However, if the foreigners conducting businesses in the country did not adhere to the process and regulations set, he said legal action would be taken against them. — Bernama
