PASIR PUTEH: Free use of the Uthmaniyah Umno Complex in Kampung Pauh Lima here has socially and economically benefited residents in the Pasir Puteh parliamentary constituency.
The complex has two indoor halls with a 1,100 capacity and an open hall that could accommodate 2,000 people.
The free use of the halls since 2014 was one of Pasir Puteh Umno's initiatives to provide convenience to the people.
Pasir Puteh Umno division chief Datuk Zawawi Othman said since its opening, various parties including individuals, government agencies and non-governmental organisations had made full use of the facilities.
"The facilities are open to all, irrespective of political affiliation," he told Bernama.

Among the programmes held at the halls are seminars, workshops, Quran classes, religious lectures, tuition, weddings and sports events.
Zawawi, who is also Semerak assemblyman, said he spent about RM10,000 monthly on maintenance of the complex.
Meanwhile, Kelab Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) Pasir Puteh chairman Mariam Mahmood, 48, said the club had organised five gatherings at the complex which were participated by about 1,500 to 3,000 people.
Most of the participants were housewives and single mothers who wanted to improve their livelihood by venturing into small businesses in their respective villages.
She said the club would hold another meeting on Nov 30, which is expected to be attended by 2,000 people.
Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA) project director Nik Hamadi Nik Abdullah said the organisation had used the halls for development programmes such as workshops for farmers on how to use technology and innovation to increase their agricultural yield particularly paddy.
A Muay Thai competition organiser Siti Nor Adamy Mamat, 34, said she had used the halls to hold international level tomoi competitions without charging the audience any fee.
"If we rent a hall elsewhere, the normal rate would be RM500 per day excluding electricity and water charges," she said, expressing her gratitude to Zawawi and Pasir Putih Umno. — Bernama
