Police arrest suspected drug traffickers, seize nearly RM12k worth of ganja

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have arrested three men and seized four blocks of ganja worth about RM11,720, at the exit of the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) here.
Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid, said a team of seven police personnel had stopped the suspects' car when they conducted an operation at the exit of BKE (direction from Butterworth to Kulim), about 12.45am this morning.
Police found four blocks of ganja weighing 3,906g in two plastic bags hidden in the vehicle. They then arrested the three suspects, aged 30, 32 and 36.
He said based on initial investigation, the 32-year-old suspect, who is a businessman from Shah Alam, Selangor, has a previous criminal record for a drug case, while the other two suspects from Shah Alam and Ampang do not have any previous criminal records.
Nik Ros Azhan said all the suspects who tested positive for cannabis have been remanded until June 30.
Police will investigate the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1) (a) of the same act for drug trafficking and drug possession.
In another case, police detained another two men, aged 23 and 38, in the same operation for possessing syabu.
Nik Ros Azhan said police found a plastic bag containing crystal material believed to be syabu, weighing 0.3g and a modified bottle used for consuming the drugs.
"Police have arrested the duo who are from Seberang Jaya and Bukit Mertajam for further investigations," he added.
