Police bust heroin lab in Relau, two men nabbed

GEORGE TOWN: Police have uncovered a heroin processing laboratory after raiding an apartment in Relau near here, they arrested two men and seized various drugs worth RM158,800 on Sunday.
Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the raid at a syndicate rented premise at 9pm was based on intelligence and surveillance from the past month.
"Police found two men, aged 33 and 34, who were members of a syndicate, producing and trafficking drugs at the rented apartment.
"In the raid, we seized 4,391g of heroin, heroin base (383g), syabu (53g) and 35,500g of powdered caffeine as well as drug cooking equipment and liquid chemicals such as chloroform, sodium and pandan extract,'' he told a press conference, here today.
He said based on investigations, the two men had the expertise to cook heroin and they obtained their supply of raw materials from the syndicate.
Anuar said the two men were believed to be involved in the activity in the past eight to 10 months and the drugs were for distribution in Penang.
In the raid, police also confiscated RM11,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales and two cars.
"The drugs police seized could meet the supply for 7,300 addicts and based our investigations, the two men were also moving the laboratory from place to place to avoid detection by the authorities," he said.
Police were also tracking down the identities of the other syndicate members. Both men were tested positive for drugs and are now remanded for seven days to assist investigations. — Bernama
