Police cripple 'Michael Gang' in Taiping

TAIPING: Police have crippled the "Michael Gang" group with the arrest of five men including the gang leader known as "Koh Kok" in two separate raids in Simpang here and Serdang in Kedah last April.

Taiping District Police chief ACP Harrith Kam Abdullah said all the suspects, aged 37 to 58 years, were detained at two separate houses at Taman Seri Larut Simpang here and Taman Kenangan Serdang, Kedah on April 7 and 26.
Harrith Kam said, during the raid, police seized a Perodua Kelisa car, a Volkswagen Jetta car, items for taking the drug syabu, two opaque packets containing 0.8g of syabu, two 4.2g ganja packets, three mobile phones, a laptop, a camera, a crowbar and a screwdriver, and other items.
"With the arrest of the group, the police have solved 15 cases of house-breaking in the district. All arrested are from Perak," he said in a press conference after the Anti-Corruption Pledge at the District Police Headquarters multi-purpose hall here today.
He said two of those arrested were charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code which carries 14 years imprisonment and whipping, upon conviction, while the rest were in the process of being penalised under the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) (Amendment and Extension) Act 2013.
Harrith Kam added the police were investigating another two gang members believed to be involved in corruption. — Bernama
