Police enforce security measures around Najib's residence

KUALA LUMPUR: The entrance to the residence of ex-prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in Taman Duta here was cordoned off by police today as a precautionary security measure.
Sentul deputy police chief Supt Mohamed Rafiq Mohamed Mustafa said steps were taken to ensure the security in the neighbourhood is not breached by the movements of those who are not from the residential area.
"It's merely for the safety of the residents and nothing else. Although there have been no threats or other problems for now, we urge the public and media to refrain (from) gathering in the area until it becomes a disturbance to residents. We understand media personnel are eager to perform their duties but our concern is for the security in the area and this is just a precautionary step." he told theSun.
Mohamed Rafi added that five policemen are on round-the-clock duty in the area. They have been detailed to inspect and perform checks on vehicles and people entering the housing estate.
After his fall from the country's top political post, Najib has not only come under the scrutiny of the new government over alleged discrepancies of taxpayers funds, but also from the public.
On Saturday, after news of his plans to travel to Indonesia with his wife Datin Rosmah Mansor in a private jet went viral on social media, a large group of people gathered at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport Subang to prevent him from leaving.
About 100 people peered into passing cars that slowed down at the entrance of the airport to look out for the couple.
However, Najib and Rosmah failed to show up at the airport after the Immigration Department placed them under a blacklist that barred them from leaving the country.
