Polytechnic student pleads not guilty to raping 9-year-old

SEREMBAN: A Port Dickson polytechnic student was charged at Sessions and Magistrate Court for nine charges, including kidnapping and sexual assault against a nine year old girl.
Umar Ariffin, 21 from Bandar Springhill, Port Dickson pleaded not guilty to the crime which he was accused of committing on June and again last week.
On the first charge read in front of Judge G. Ramesh, he was accused of kidnapping the child from the care of her father in a house at Port Dickson Polytechnic at 3:30am on Aug 14.
He was charged under Penal Code 363, which carries a maximum sentence of 7 years jail or fine.
In the other six charges which was read in front of Judge Noor Hayati, the accused was charged for multiple sexual assault on the same victim in a house at Bandar Springhill as well as at the Port Dickson Polytechnic on June 14 until Aug 14.
The accused was charged for all crime according to Section 14(a) and Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences against Children 2017, where for each sentence if found guilty he can be imprisoned for 20 years and whipped.
The proceeding was led by Deputy Prosecutor Norshazwani Ishak while the accused was defended by Mohamad Zahid Ahmad, M Sivam and K. Mahalakshimi.
The accused was granted bail of RM25,000 and has to report in Lukut police station once a month and is not allowed to be in close proximity to the victim as well as the victim's family.
