GEORGE TOWN: Even before Parliament is dissolved to pave way for the general elections, the poster war has begun in Penang with Barisan Nasional (BN) setting the tone with an attack on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow (left) today said some 500 to 600 posters, hitting out at Lim and the state government, had been strung up as part of its election machinery dry run.
The posters were in Bahasa, English, Chinese and Tamil.
He said the putting up of posters in the early hours today was to remind Penangites of the 51 promises unfulfilled by Lim.
However, the posters were taken down by Penang Island City Council workers after a few hours.
Teng said Lim had failed to live up to expectations after the Opposition took over Penang.
They highlight what they call “51 empty promises after 10 years” and reveal an image of Lim with graphic designs of floods, traffic congestion and hill developments in the background.
Teng said he will reveal the unfulfilled promises later.
“Slowly, we will disclose it in a few days,” he said at a press conference.
State local government exco Chow Kon Yeow, in a statement, appealed to Teng to support the state’s green initiative and refrain from putting up posters that are unfriendly to environment.
“It is a sheer waste of valuable resources to use so much paper for this poster campaign against the Penang chief minister,” he said, adding that local council workers were also tasked to clean up the mess.
